Accessible Housing Podcast Discussion

Paul Gauthier participated in a pod cast held by Stuart McNish, on Housing Matters, The Vancouver Real Estate show. The podcast addresses the issues of accessible housing for individuals with disabilities and for an aging population.

The conversation outlined the current housing challenges for individuals with disability and discusses planning initiatives, projects, solutions and successes. While the entire program is informative and definitely worth listening to, Paul’s portion begins at 19:56 in which he discusses the Right Fit Pilot Project and how the RFPP works with individuals seeking accessible housing and home providers looking for suitable tenants.

There are two options to listen and/or watch. Vancouver Sun on their media page of the website or if you scroll below, you can watch the program on Vancouver Sun's Youtube channel (with subtitles)

We are pleased to announce a three year partnership with the Disability Alliance BC, for the Right Fit Pilot Project (RFPP). The RFPP is a collaborative effort to address barriers and test the streamlined models to connect Wheelchair users with affordable, accessible housing in the lower mainland.

The pilot will develop, and test, a case management model to help a rolling caseload of 20 wheelchair users find homes that fit their needs, in addition to the personal supports needed to live independently. Project partners will work directly with applicants and with housing and service providers to learn more about systemic barriers.

Paul Gauthier, Executive Director of IFRC and Jane Dyson, Executive Director of Disability Alliance BC will be on CBC Early Edition Monday, December 11 at 7:40am, to speak about this project for a special co-hosted segment with Rick Hanson. Tune in, share the news and learn more about this exciting project!

Led by Disability Alliance BC, other partners in this project include in partnership, BC Housing, City of Vancouver, Fraser Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority & the Ministry of Social Development & Poverty Reduction.

We have hope for improvement and change from lessons learned from this project. If you’d like to learn more about how to be involved in the RFPP, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
